Sending Your Photographs

If you are sending photographs please make sure you insert a piece of paper
in between each photograph to protect it and use a piece of card in front and
behind all of the photos.

Please use recorded delivery and if you can afford to - insurance,
as these photos I'm sure are invaluable.
Alternatively you could have them professionally copied at a local photographers
where they will take a photograph of your original and then produce a photographic copy.
Send the copied photographic copy if you are happy with the reproduction.
This way should anything happen you still have the original.

Please don't send a print which has been printed on a home inkjet or laser printer
as it will not scan as well as a photograph.

A print taken from a digital camera and professionally developed will be fine.

Scanning and Emailing Your Photographs

If you are scanning your own photograph please choose to scan at 300dpi (dots per inch) or
the highest resolution you can. Preferably no higher than 400dpi as it will take a long time to send.

Photographs that have been taken on a digital camera can be emailed.

When sending photographs, please name them with the persons full name and a word
document that indicates what relation they are (see section on Describing Relation).

Save your photographs as bmp or jpg (bmp files are best)

After saving your photograph remember to re-open it and check it looks correct.
Check the file size - if it's more than 200KB please alter the image size, or alternatively
send your images on cd rom by post.

 

What is Pedigree & Descendent?

Pedigree; is parentage only ie your parents, their parents and their parents etc.
This Tree goes back from yourself or the person you have chosen.

Descendent; includes siblings and comes down from yourself or the person you have chosen,
ie. Myself, my children, my grandchildren.

Describing your relation

Take your main person - the person who the frame is all about (both people if it's a couple)

For Pedigree you can work it out backwards ie:
The Main Person is....
Main Person's mother is....
Main Person's father is....
Main Person's Mother's father is....
Main Person's Mother's mother is....
Main Person's Father's father is....
Main Person's Father's mother is....
etc.

For Descendent work it out downwards ie;
Main Couple....
Main Couple's child A....
Main Couple's child B....
Main Couple's child C....
for as many children as there are, then...

Child A's husband/wife...
Child B's husband/wife...
Child C's husband/wife...
for as many are married, then...

Child A's child 1....
Child A's child 2....
Child A's child 3....
for as many children as they have, then...

Child B's child 1....
Child B's child 2....
Child B's child 3....
for as many children as they have, then...

Child A's.1 child I ....
Child A's.1 child II ....
for as many children as they have, then...

Child A's.2 child I ...
Child A's. 2 child II ...
for as many children as they have, then...

I haven't got a photo of everyone?

Personally I don't think it matters if there isn't a photo of all your relatives in the portrait.
Obviously it's nice but it's not always possible.

In my husband's family tree, several photographs are missing. I have the names
with an empty box in the same colour as the background. Click for example Sample

It is possible after sometime, especially if you're researching, to find a missing photograph. If this happens, send it to us, and we'll re-print your photo sending it back in a card envelope for you to replace in your frame. Charges are shown in the pricing section.

Adding a person or persons

If you have already had a pedigree or descendent portrait and either you've found a missing person or your family has grown - congratulations! you can re-order your print with the additions of either: a name, photograph, or with descendent chart a new little person!
